Effective Counseling for individuals, couples & families
Matt Heatherly is a pastoral counselor serving the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area. He brings his own unique combination of professional training, personal skills, and life experience to his therapy practice.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Alabama. Matt served for ten years as a pastor in churches where, among other responsibilities, his duties included worship-leading and working with teens. In 2004, Matt began his graduate work in psychotherapy at Purdue University and Indiana Wesleyan University.
Matt is now in his thirteenth year of service as a therapist or pastoral counselor. During that time he has worked with hundreds of individuals, couples, and families on all sorts of issues that affect their lives. While he tends to work mainly with healthy, high-functioning people, he also gained experience working with the seriously mentally ill in inpatient settings.
Personal experience deeply informs any counselor's work. Matt has personally known the pressures of college life, high-stress work settings, church politics, financial woes, relocations, being away from family, office politics, career change, death of parents, severed romantic relationships, and many of the other stressors that make modern life so tough.
Matt brings a practical mindset into this work, along with compassion, imagination and a dedication to professional excellence.
As a voracious life-long learner, Matt continually masters new skills through ongoing training each year.
