Dr. Matt Heatherly is a clinical therapist serving the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area. He brings his own unique combination of professional training, personal skills, and life experience to his therapy practice.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Alabama. Matt served for ten years as a pastor in churches where, among other responsibilities, his duties included worship-leading and working with teens. In 2004, Matt completed his graduate work in psychotherapy at Purdue University and Indiana Wesleyan University.
Matt is now in his twentieth year of service as a therapist. During that time he has worked with hundreds of individuals, couples, and families on all sorts of issues that affect their lives. He has experience working with inner-city familes in crisis, doing contract work for the state. He has also worked in in-patient settings conducting programs in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient. Since 2013, he has worked full-time in private practice.
Personal experience deeply informs any therapist's work. Matt has personally known the pressures of college life, high-stress work settings, financial woes, relocations, relationship and family struggles, career change, death of loved ones, and many of the other stressors that make modern life so tough.
Matt brings a practical, solution-focused approach to this work, along with compassion, imagination and a dedication to professional excellence.
As a life-long learner, Matt continually masters new skills through ongoing training and consultation.
